Santa Monica neighborhoods

In Santa Monica, there are so many unique and exciting places to explore. Each of Santa Monica’s eight neighborhoods is different and has fun-filled offerings for every occasion. Whether you’re looking to take the family out to an activity, enjoy a relaxing stroll, soak in nature, or indulge in the arts community, there is something for you on every corner.

When you’re ready to start adventuring around each of Santa Monica’s distinctive neighborhoods, these four are a good place to start.

4 Santa Monica Neighborhoods You Need To Know

1. Downtown Santa Monica

Downtown Santa Monica is a lively and happening neighborhood, due to it being home to two of the largest shopping areas in Santa Monica: the Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place. The Third Street Promenade has three blocks of open-air shopping, dining, and things to do for people of all ages, and Santa Monica Place features three floors of retail and dining in a sophisticated atmosphere.

Don’t forget about the farmer’s market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and be sure to hop on the Metro Expo Line to go to Downtown Los Angeles via light rail.

2. Santa Monica Pier Area

The Santa Monica Pier Area neighborhood sits along Ocean Avenue and features dining, hotels, Palisades Park, and Tongva Park for seaside enjoyment. You’ll find people walking, riding skateboards, bikes, hoverboards and more on the Marvin Braude Bike Trail and throughout the Pier area.

You can’t forget about the main attraction in this palm-lined area: the Santa Monica Pier, which features the famous Pacific Park amusement park, the Santa Monica Pier Carousel, and the world’s first and only solar-powered Ferris wheel, the Pacific Wheel.

3. Mid City

This arts and entertainment focused Santa Monica neighborhood is bordered by the Wilshire and Olympic boulevards, and your top to-do list options must include the Bergamot Station, The Broad Stage, The Clayhouse, the upscale Assistance League Thrift Shop, and the Santa Monica Music Center.

It’s home to an eclectic mix of shops and things to do, and there’s always a spot to check out that you haven’t before.

4. Montana Avenue

In the northern tip of Santa Monica, you’ll find the Montana Avenue neighborhood. It’s not quite in the city, so it is a great low-key option for both shopping and adventuring. Its offerings are enjoyed by families, celebrities, tourists, and beyond, as it lends itself to a relaxing pace for an evening, a day out or a short visit.

Don’t forget to visit the Aero Theatre, the Ten Women Gallery, and Rainbeau Mars Lifestyles, along with the wide array of unique small businesses within this top-notch Santa Monica neighborhood.
